Professional Areas of Interest
– I enjoy the full spectrum of family medicine practice, beginning with the newborn period, providing well and sick child medical care, extending through all the stages of life.  It gives me great personal satisfaction to provide medical care for entire families.  Special areas of interest are management of diabetes, hypertension and asthma, with particular focus on aggressive management of early childhood asthma in an attempt to prevent more serious, life-long complications, ER visits and hospitalization.

Personal Information
– I have lived in the Kansas City and West Central Missouri area since the age of 8.  I attended Warrensburg High School and Crest Ridge High School in Centerview, MO (near Warrensburg).

Prior to my career in medicine, I attended Seminary and worked in Christian Ministry, having served as a member of the ministry staff of two Kansas City area churches.  Since completing residency training in 2003, I have practiced both Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine in the Kansas City and western Missouri region.  My wife, Carol, and I have lived in the Lee's Summit area since 1989.  We have been richly blessed with two daughters, Elise and Clarisse, as well as a son, by marriage, Steven and our first – and as of this time, only – grandchild, our grandson, Trey.  My greatest joy and purpose come from my faith.  It is not simply the most important part of my life, but rather, it IS my life, giving meaning and purpose to everything else.  I love spending time with my family and friends every chance I get, as well as maintaining active involvement in my church, where I sing in the choir, lead in adult Bible study and serve as a lay leader.  Additionally, I love travel. live theatre, writing and cheering for the Royals and the Chiefs.  We are Kansas Citians through and through.  We love our city, its people and its culture.

My passion, and that which I consider one of the most important aspects of my role as a physician, is educating individuals, parents and entire families to equip and empower them to accept their vital role as members of their own personal health care team.  To do this, I believe that I must, first and foremost, listen intently to determine where an individual is in their understanding of their health and wellness issues, as well as the factors that affect their motivation to take an active role in maximizing their personal level of health and wellness.  Furthermore, I believe that achieving and maintaining genuine wellness requires attentiveness to all aspects of one's health – physical, mental and spiritual, and that each of these aspects are of equal importance to an individual's overall well being.   I am delighted to be a part of the Summit Family and Sports Medicine team and look forward to building strong, trust-filled relationships with all individuals with whom I am fortunate to interact as a member of their health care team.
